Monument for the Volunteer Army Corps



This monument stands on the greenbeit near the Honkawa Buildeing, dedicated on august 6, 1945, by bereaved familiesw of the volunteer army corps which was organized in Nukui, Kawauchi Village, Sato-cyo, Asa County. Allthe memders of the volunteer army corps of Nukui were exposed to the A-bomb and kiloled while demolishing buildings. Although the corps was nade up of both men and woman, it inclucec many men who were the sole suppot of their families. Thus many families were left stupefied, not knowing which way to turn. The following is written on the monument: "Dedicated respectfully to the memory of those in the volunteer army corps. We will not forget that tragic day. At 8:15 on August 6, 1945 , an A-bomb was dropped on this place. In the pit of hell our r beloved ones suffered agony and entered their final sleep. Though it was the supreme order of the military, it resulted in the sacrifice of 174 lives. They were called the Kawauchi Village Volunteers, all residents of the Nukui Community in Kawauchi Village Asa County. We who loved you vow that peace will be remember it forever. Rest in peace."
