Stone Lantern of Peace

The Stone Lantern of Peace was constructed of August 6, 1995, by the Tankokai Hiroshima branch of the Urasenke Tea Ceremony School, to prau for the peace of the souls of the A-bomb victims. On the side of the pedestal a plaque was attached in 1977 which reads, "A poem written on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the atomic bombing" by Tanshosai Ishii, head of the Tankokai Hiroshima branch. The poem reads, "Praying for the repose of the souls of those who fell victim. This pedestal is made in the shape of a tatami (strawmat) so that tea can be offered in prayer throughout the year in quiet peace as guests are received in harmont." Each year on August 6, tea is offered before the Stone Lantern of Peace.
