Working With the Government
- Ministry of National Development (MND)
The Ministry is overall responsible for the urban planning of Singapore with
various agencies and departments under it. Lead by Mr. Mah Bow Tan who is
the Minister for National Development, the Ministry aims to develop Singapore
into a thriving world-class city through optimal land use planning, co-ordinated
urban design, comprehensive landscaping and affordable quality housing.
- Housing Development Board (HDB)
Under the Ministry of National Development, the HDB is responsible for, among
others, planning, developing and upgrading of housing estates to meet the
needs of the population and also to formulate and implement housing policies
and programmes that help foster cohesive communities in multi-racial Singapore.
- Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA)
A statutory board under the Ministry of National Development, the URA plays
a crucial role in planning for the nation's future for both long-term and
short-term planning and then co-ordinates and guides efforts to bring these
plans under reality.
- Ministry of Community Development & Sports
The ministry is mainly responsible for building a tight-knited and united
community within Singapore and is active in many ways to achieve a cohesive
society. It targets at different levels to aaproach the society - the individual,
the family and the community.
- Schemes & Policies
Various housing schemes and polices are often implemented to help improve
the conditions of existing housing estates. In here, we highlight two of the
more significant ones, one of which has been implemented since the start of
the 90s and the other, only recently.
