Communal Life
- Community Development Councils (CDCs)
The Community Development Council (CDC) is a localised participative government
where Singaporeans can get involved in their community and work towards
making life better for themselves and their fellowmen. The more able and
successful need to feel a sense of obligation to help the less able by serving
the neighbourhoods where they live, work and grow up in.
- Community Mediation Centres
Community mediation centres were set up in Singapore with the passing of
the Community Mediation Act 1997. So far two centres were established in
Marine Parade and Ang Mo Kio. One other will be set up this year and another,
next year. One of the important reasons for having mediation centres is
to provide an avenue for parties with social or neighbourhood problems to
seek help in these centres.
- Residents' Committee (RCs)
The RCs were the grassroots of the housing estates of the olden days, however,
they still play a significant role in today's modern society. Organising
various kinds of activities such as block parties, they help foster social
cohesion and community development in the housing estates.
