Pictures of band performances shown on this page were taken from the Central Judging of Display Bands organized by the CCA Branch Ministry of Education, Singapore. 782 students from 8 secondary schools participated in the event and the top 3 bands were be selected to compete for the coveted title of the "Best Display Band of the Year" award on Sat 8 July 2000 at the Opening Ceremony of the Singapore Youth Festival 2000. Finalists in the competition were: Tanjong Katong Secondary, Bowen Secondary and Bukit Panjang Government High/Teck Whye Secondary. The band with their creative choreography, interesting formations and dance movements was a definite hit with the spectators.

Band in a formation

In display is Tanjong Katong Secondary Band which was awarded the Best Display Band of the Year. Since 1967, it has been the potent source of school pride with numerous gold medals and maces of honour to its credit. Moreover it was invited to perform at last year's National Day parade before the entire nation, the first for any school band.

Getting into a new formation by the Bukit Panjang - Teck Whye Combined Band. These bands achieved the Gold Award in the Central Judging of Display Bands 2000.

Band at attention

The Bowen Military Brass Band at attention. The band made headlines, striking gold in 1994,1995 and again in 1996. Also, it was declared the Best Display Performance Band in 1995, a feat never achieved by any neighbourhood school.
