Welcome to The Human Genome Project : Decoding Our Lives.

This site was made to provide information about the Human Genome Project and to examine the numerous issues associated with it. We hope that you will leave this site with a piqued interest and knowledge gained about the Human Genome Project. Please visit our guestbook and give us your comments and suggestions.

Genetics 101 - Background Genetics - Without mankind's knowledge of genetics, it would have been impossible for us to attain the amount of knowledge we have today on the genome. This section will teach you everything you need to know about genetics to better understand the information on our website.

History of the Human Genome Project - The 21st century has been called the "Biology Century" by people ranging in diversity from Bill Clinton to Bill Gates. The Human Genome Project was officially started in 1990 by the U.S. Government. It was planned as a 15 year project with a 3 billion dollar budget. In The History of the Human Genome Project (HGP) you'll learn just what history the project made already!

Goals and Progress of the HGP - In 1998, the Human Genome Project outlined its final 5 year plan in the September 23rd issue of Science magazine. This plan was to carry the project to completion, 2 years ahead of schedule, in 2003. Coincidentally, this is the 50th anniversary of the first description of DNA's fundamental structure, by Watson and Crick.

Ethical and Legal Implications of the Human Genome Project - With the new research being made into the human genome, new questions arise about the role of this new information in law and also how it affects mankind.
