Notes: Binary Fission

  and Review of Biology 1

Starting out with a few terms:

genome:  total DNA endowed to an organism, passed down without dilution; 1+ long DNA molecules.  In eukaryotes, the genome is arranged into compact folding/coiling chromosomes.

binary fission:  chromosome is a highly folded ring attached to the plasma membrane.  The membrane pinches in between them; when about 2x the initial size, a cell wall forms between them (2 rings of DNA).
