Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun. It is aften known as the Red Planet because it is covered by red soil. Its temperature seldom reaches above 0oC.

The thin atmosphere of Mars is mainly composed of carbon dioxide. The atmospheric pressure is less than 1 hundredth, and temperature falls below freezing point.

Its surface can be divided into two areas. The southern hemisphere has a lot of mountains caused by meteors. The northern hemisphere is comparatively flat.
