Indulgences

ndulgences were granted by the pope in return for a sum of money, and individual sinners were absolved of their temporal punishments due to their sins (yet were not forgiven of their actual sins). These Indulgences became a big scam during this time, and many ignorant people were unknowingly robbed of their money, which did nothing to free their souls of sin.
