Methods for the ingestion of tobacco 

The information on the traditional use of the tobacco that continues next is based on sources that embrace several hundred of years. Some of the methods are still practiced and other not. To avoid the confusion of changing past to present, it is only used this last one (the etnografic present ) to allow a traverse vision of the use of the tobacco in the indigenous societies. Although this focus communicates an inalterabilidad sensation, some methods have suffered important changes. It is also mentioned the use of the tobacco in the indigenous societies of North America, but the description is centered in the practices observed in the America of the South. The presented information is based on the work of Wilbert, except when they make an appointment other references. 

It has been proven the use of the roads gastroíntestitial, breathing and percutánea among the South American Indians, but case some of intravenous administration has not been observed. The ingestion methods understand the use of pills of tobacco to chew, of juice or syrup of the plant to drink, and of pasta to suck; the administration of suppositories and enemas of tobacco; the snuff employment; the tobacco; the inhalation of the smoke through the air; and the application of having derived from the tobacco to the skin and the eyes.
