RevelationRevelation is looked to as the description of the Second Coming of Jesus and the final judgement of the world. The Bible describes how the world was judged by water in the Great Flood. (Genesis 7) The final judgement in Revelation is said to be the judgement of fire. Jesus' first coming on the earth is described in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the New Testament of the Bible. The apostle John, son of Zebedee, wrote the Book of Revelation, which actually means "The Apocalypse" in the Greek. John was the disciple whom Jesus loved (John 21:20). John also wrote one of the four Gospels, and 1st & 2nd John. He was given his revelation while in exile on the island of Patmos, in the Aegean Sea, around 96 AD, a period in which the Roman Empire was persecuting Christians. As the tradtitional story goes, John was in a cave, which was his prison, when he had a vision. In his vision he was told to write down the things that he saw. Revelation is the testimony of John's vision. Revelation is about the wrath of God being poured out on the earth as it's final judgement. Those who will be spared of God's wrath, and will enter into the New Jerusalem, are those who have been saved. View the book of Revelation in graphical form at Revelation Illustrated.
