The foundation stone of Hong Kong University was laid in 1910 by Lugards, the Governor of Hong Kong at that time, who intended for it to educate the Chinese in the British Colony of Hong Kong. The University opened a year later. It was very successful and proved to play a positive role by the British Crown Colony.
