The north African coast culture is some times called Moslem area because i
has been influenced by ArabianĀ moslems.( Followers of Muhamadean religion).Berbers speak ing people seem to have been the original inhabitants of north Africa.Although
the tribes called Berbers are a branch of berber speaking people.Berbers are closely related to the Tauregs who also speak Berbers language.Berbers occupied Africa all the way
from Egypt to the Antlantic ocean.But they fell before the phoenicians evaders. Berbers live in desert villages built around water sources called oasis where they raise olives for making oil and
dates for exporting.They keep sheeps,goats and donkeys for trading.oasis villages are carefully fortified against the raid of normadic people.The berbers are organised into
loosely knit tribes.
Local chiefs are called shieks and they are the most powerful of independent villages.A borne shiek are the Kaids or chiefs apponted by the
national government,Berbers don`t have kingdoms but local political groups.The Berbers belong to a strict set of Islam that follows Muhamedean teachings very closely.They still
dislike foreighners,as they were told to do by muhamedean missionaries centuries.they believe that all sickeness is due to the evil eye, or a look that can kill a
