Pythagoras

Pythagoras is well known by his discovery of Pythagoras theorem.. he was born in 572 BC at Sarmos Island, which was a colony of Greece. At the time when he was born, Sakyamuni was sermonizing in India, while Confucius was preaching in China.

Young Pythagoras

While Pythagoras in his boyhood, there was an interesting story.

When young Pythagoras was walking down the street with a bundle of firewood on his back one day, a gentleman saw him and thought that the combination model for the bundle of firewood was very smart. He wanted to know whether the combination was arranged by the boy intentionally or just at will. Then, he asked Pythagoras: "Cone on, cone on. Please do me a favor. It is not very difficult. I just want you to put down the firewood, mess it and combine it again. Is all right?"

Pythagoras thought that the gentleman was so strange to put forward such a request. But he still followed the gentleman's request. He put down the firewood, messed it and combined it again.

The gentleman noticed that the boy was good at piling the firewood and respected the boy's capability. He talked to Pythagoras: "Don't you want to study? Why don't you try it?"

He warmly encouraged the boy to become a scholar.

As the story says, Pythagoras left Sarmos Island under the encouragement of the gentleman in order to be taught under Thales. But other people said that Pythagoras is not the disciple of Thales and his teacher is ANKXMD.

It is no matter how the popular sayings is' there is one thing assured that Pythagoras learned most of the mathematical knowledge, which was mastered at that time, from his teacher. Afterwards, he went to Egypt to continue studying under his teacher's advisement. He kept a long time when he studied in Egypt. It said that he had visited Babylon when he was in Egypt.
