Inequalities

Objective:

            • Learn about the properties of inequalities

Lesson 6-1 Inequalities

Properties of inequality

If a > b and c > d, then a + c > b + d

If a > b and c > 0, then ac > bc and a/c > b/c

If a > b and c< 0, then ac < bc and a/c < b/c

If a > b and b > c, then a > c

If a = b + c and c > 0, then a > b

Theorem 6-1 (The Exterior Angle Inequality Theorem)

The measure of an exterior angle of a triangle is greater than the measure of either remote interior angle

The measure of angle 1 is greater than the measure angle B and angle C. This is because measure of angle1 is equal the the sum of the measure of angle B and C.
