Trapezoids

Objective:

                • Learning about the properties of a trapezoid and an isosceles trapezoid.

Lesson 5-4 Trapezoids

Trapezoid: A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides

Bases: Parallel sides of the trapezoid

Legs: The other two sides of the trapezoid

Isosceles trapezoid: A trapezoid with congruent legs

Median: The segment that joins he midpoints of the legs

Theorem 5-18

Base angles of an isosceles trapezoid are congruent

Angle A and Angle D are congruent because both legs are congruent

Theorem 5-19

The median of a trapezoid (1) is parallel to the bases; (2) has a length equal to the average of the base lengths.

The length of segment EF is equal to the length of segment AB plus segment DC divide by two.
