Newton's First Law:
F = ma
Remeber that this is a vector equation and thus the acceleration is always in the direction of the force. To find the horizontal acceleration of the object, we must calculate the horizontal component (x-component) of the force vector, F.

Fx = Fcosq
ax = Fcosq/m

Answer: Fcos(theta)/m or (F/m)cos(theta)
