Since scientists have concluded that people's actions have caused global
warming, our actions can also help reduce this threat. One can help by
taking personal action and encouraging community action. One can
contribute to this global cause by his personal actions. Just by using
less amount of oil, gasoline, and coal, one can set an example for others
to follow.
There are certain things in our control which can lead to
increase this problem. Below are discussed some of the ways we can
contribute to this global cause.
-
One should look after the home appliances, and electronics
items, they should not consume lot more energy and be efficient
enough.
-
While buying a vehicle, it should be kept in mind that
it is highly fuel efficient.
-
It is not a problem for an individual to walk,
or join a mass transit or take a bike instead of driving
alone. One should take care of it. Even within our houses we can
develop a plan to reduce electricity usage around our home.
Run our dishwasher only with a full load.
-
Use the energy-saving setting to dry the
dishes. Don't use heat when drying. This way you can save about 200
pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
-
Wash clothes in warm or cold water, not hot.
This would let you save about 500 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.
Clean or replace air filters as recommended. Cleaning a dirty air
conditioner filter can save 5% of the energy used.
-
Buy energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs
for your most-used lights. Reduce waste: Buy minimally packaged goods;
choose reusable products over disposable ones; recycle. This would
save you around a 1000 pounds a year.
-
If your car has an air conditioner, make sure you recycle
its coolant whenever you have it serviced. You can save thousands
of pounds of carbon dioxide each year by doing this.
-
Plant trees next to your home and paint your
home a light color if you live in a warm climate, or a dark color in a
cold climate. This would contribute about saving 5000 pounds of carbon
dioxide per year.
-
Reduce waste and promote energy-efficient
measures at your school or workplace. Work in your community to
set up recycling programs.
You alone can help in
reducing emission of thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide. Your actions
can inspire the people around you and you alone can make a huge
difference! Specially in countries like US which is responsible for
releasing 40,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per person every year.
