The Palace of Andrey the Large, situated along the Volga coast, from the east party was terminated the Stone chamber, and from the western — with Spaso-Preobrarhensky Cathedral. The stone cathedral was constructed simultaneously with the palace in the 80 years XV-th century and it is a part of the palace ensemble. The cathedral repeatedly was exposed to destruction’s. It especially is strong suffered in the beginning of the 17th century — during the Polish intervention. By the end of the 17th century the cathedral came to the complete decay and was disassembled. In 1713 (on the other sources — In 1716) the building of a new cathedral, reminded to up to us was finished.
The new constructed Spaso-Preobrarhensky cathedral represents monumental structure. The cathedral is created by the Yaroslavl masons led by Grigoryi Fedorov. Smartness of the temple is given by decorative processing of walls and drums. It is especially remarkable in this respect southern white-stone portal with its magnificent ornament. In the beginning of the 19th century from the south the portico, western church-porch and northern-side chapel were attached. The internal space of a temple is blocked by an arch, the bay the of which is 14ě. The remained mural is made by the artel of the artists led by Timofey Medvedev in the beginning of the 19th century. The painters applied to a curious method on the all Kremlin construction. Far seen gilhonette of the belfry with domes of a cathedral crowns all the ensemble of Uglich monuments.
