The Tsar of the Palace

In the some time with the construction of the refectory on the opposite side of the monastery the huge building of the Palace was constructed, designed for the Tzar family. The building resembles the refectory by its size, the presence of the promenade, by its rich decoration and the painting of the facades. The spacious arched chambers of the Palace are arranged by two suites. In the middle of the 18th century they were decorated anew, ornamented by rich stucco mouldings and composed floors, the walls were upholstered with silk. Especially beautiful are the rooms of the first floor, decorated with the stucco mouldings, performed by masters Ilya Sayevitch and Michail Zimin. On the ceiling of one of them the battles of Peter I are depicted. In the beginning of the 19th century the building was adapted for the Moscow Ecclesiastical Academy.
