Metropolitan chambers
In the 17th
century the construction of the Metropolitan chambers began. The design of the facades and
the inner decoration were finished already in the 17th century. Placed on the
steep hill-side, on the place of the priors’ cells of the 16th century, the
building has 3 storeys on the south side and 2 ones on the north side. The Metropolitan
chambers are the accumulation of a number of epoch’s: the ground floor represents the 16th
century, the first floor was constructed in the middle of the 17th century, and
the second one – in the end of the 18th century. The present day appearance
the chambers got in 1778 when on the north facade a balcony with low columns was built and
the walls were decorated with figured casings. In the same period the decoration of the
upper floor rooms with rich stucco moldings, composed floors and huge tile stores of
whimsical forms was performed.
