The Bell-Tower

Bell-tower

One of the most important buildings of the Trinity monastery is the 5-tier bell-tower of 1741-1769, which has the world-wide fame. It was built by the architects I.F.Michurin and D.V.Ukhtomsky. There were 42 bells on all the tiers of the bell-tower. One of them with the weight of 2000 poods was in that time the biggest one and was of great interest as an example of founding art of the 18th century. The clock made by a Tula masters was placed above the third tier. The exclusively well-proportioned and refined bell-tower of Trinity-Sergius Laura with the height of 86 meters became a worthy completion of the whole ensemble of the out standing monuments, which were being constructed during many centuries.
