The Refectory

Refectory. Detail from the north front.Refectory. Interior.Among the civil construction of the most attention is the refectory. Designed in Moscow baroque in 1686-1692. For the first time the refectory in the monastery was built in 1469 by the architect V.D.Yermolin. The refectory of the 17th century, preserved till nowdays, is a huge building with the length up to 85 meters. The walls are decorated with the great number of the half-windows . The names of the refectory builders are unknown, but the construction and decoration peculiarities of the building testify to the gift of the masters and to the high level of Russian building art of the 17th century.
