The Goritsky Assumption monastery

Of great interest is the museum of local lore, history and economy. It was founded in1918 and since 1919 is situated on the territory of the former Goritsky Assumption monastery, founded in the 14th century. Only constructions of the 17th and 18th centuries were preserved fill now. The fortress walls of the monastery and it’s towers were erected during the first half of the 17th century, but they were mostly rebuilt in the 18th century. The Passing and especially Holy Gates affract the most attention. They admire with their decorations from the pattern brick. The Assumption cathedral of the monastery was constructed in 1753 - 1762. It’s interior is notable for the richness of the paintings the models of the New-Jerusalem monastery under the guidance of Alexey Petrov. Of great interest is a carved iconostases performed by the Moscow carver. From the 18th century also dates the bell-tower, coming through the east wall of the monastery, and the Nikola church. The refectory chamber together with the church of All Saints was built in the 17th century. In the 80s of the 19th century the building was reconstructed and the theological college was placed here. Nowadays here are the expositions of the museum of local lore, history and economy.
