The Saviour-Resurrection
Cathedral
The Saviour-Resurrection
Cathedral is the ancient building in the Pereslavl-Zalesskiy. It was founded in 1152-1157
in the time of prince Andrey Bodolubov ruling. The Cathedral immaginates with the
strictness of appearance. Its walls are competed by three zakomaras. Near the foundation
of the dome there is a white stone-pass, repeated on the apses. The Cathedral is built of
sheaves (blocks) of local limestone-white stone. Of great interest is interesting technic
of was-building. The technology of masonry is also interesting. They laid stones almost
dry, filling in the space between two rows with the stone debris, and then flooding them
with the linking solution-lime. The Cathedral served as a interment place of Pereslavsky
apanage princes. The Cathedral was devastated repeatedly during the times of foreign
invasion and prince wars, but it was recants ructed each time.
The Saviour-Resurrection Cathedral was erected on the territory, surrounded by the ground
hills, which defended the city 800 years ago. The hill was 2,5hm in length and 15 m in
height. Beside the hill there was a moat with the sharpened stakes divvied in its bottom.
On the top of the hill there were standing walls with the towers. Burned down during the
enemy invasion, they were reconstructed again. The walls built the last time in the 20th
century with 12 towers standed till 1759, when they were pulled down by the reason of
decrepitude. And nowadays the ground hills remind the deep antiquity of those sites.
