The Danilov monastery was founded in 1508 , is located in the southern part of the city. The most ancient building of the monastery Troyitsky Cathedral, erected by the command of Basic III in memory of birth of the son Ivan the future tsar Ivan the terrible. The builder of the Cathedral was Rostovsky architect Grigory Borisov. The one-headed Cathedral in the past had pozakomara over-head cover (ceiling), which in the 18th century was replaced by the four-sloped (inclined, pitched) roof. In the church interior the cruciform attract attention pillars and frescos, performed in the second part of 17 century by the painters of Kostroma. On the north ride a small church, built in 1660 and a hipped roof bell-tower erected in 1689 are adjoined to the Cathedral.
