The assemble of Nikitsky monasteryThe assemble of Nikitsky monastery is situated on the north outskirts of the city. The monastery was founded in the 12 century. Till the 16th century, all its constructions were wooden. Only in 1528 by the command of the prince Basil III the one-headed stone church was erected there. The basic constructuring was performed already in the time of Ivan the Terrible in 60’s of the 16th century. The monastery, which was endowed by the tsar with lands, works villages, becomes one of the biggest feudal patrimonies.

The Nikitsky monastery

 

The most interesting construction of the monastery is the Nikitsky Cathedral (15661-1564) built on to the more early Nikitsky Church, which has become Cathedral’s south side-chapel. The Cathedral itself is four-pillared, five-headed, with pozakomara over-head cover. The present-day roof belongs to the18 century. For symmetry on the north side the Vsechsvyatsky side-chapel was built.

At the south walls of the monastery the refectory with the Annunciation Church (17th century) are situated . In one of the apartments of the refectory Peter 1 has stopped during his arrivals to Pereslavl-Zalesskiy.
