
Pereslavl-Zalesskiy is one of the
oldest Russian city, which was founded by the great prince Yuri Dolgoruky in 1152. Built
like a castle to protect Rostov-Suzdal principality, it soon became the center of the
independent principality. Alexander Nevsky was born in Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, there his
early ages passed. From this city he came with his army to protect Russian lands from
German crusaders. At the beginning of the 14th century ,when the rise of Moscow
began, Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, destroyed by the Mongol-Tatar troops, was the first who
attached to it (Moscow).
This city had an important economical meaning-from (this) it passed the trade road to the White sea. In 1608 Pereslavl-Zalesskiy was captured by Polish interventionists, but in September of the next year Russian armies set it free.
At the end of the 17th century Pleschev Lake, on the bank of whichPereslavl-Zalesskiy is situated, became the cradle of the Russian fleet. Here, near the village Veskovo Peter I had founded <the Business Yard>, were Pereslavl’s flotilla was built. On the place of the Peter’s house in 1803, was built a building, which is preserved till out days. Near it the monument of Peter I is placed.
In out days Pereslavl-Zalesskiy is the large industrial center, in which the old monuments are carefully kept.
