In retrospect, developing this web site was a good experience. In many
ways, working together with my other team members is the only reason why
the site is up. Sure, we had several disagreements about what should be
incorporated into the site, but we also respected each other's view and
then compromised. Also, I had to sacrifice many hours of my time in order
to work on this site (usually 4-5 hours a day).
I worked as the site's Webmaster, mainly because of my years of experience
with HTML. I was responsible for coding our web site, which in reality
was not even a job. I used Macromedia Dreamweaver to port the page layout
from Fireworks. I also used the simple Notepad to edit the pages and to
add Java Scripts. There were several occasions when there were errors
in the site and correcting them required a lot of trial and error.
I'm also a writer on the site. I wrote various articles for the Innovations
section of the site. In addition I wrote heading sentences for the site
and the entire Site Info section.
I came up with those catchy names for the site too (Innovations, Tech
Talk, Insights, Tech Jargon, and Site Info). I'm not much of a graphics
designer, but all of those images that you see such as the 2 High-Tech
logos, buttons, and bottom navigation- I created them.
Another role I took on was content manager. This position required me
to manage the site's content and to port over our documents form MS Word
to HTML; this job goes with being a Webmaster.
A major disappointment is that the team never had the chance to include
the many features on the site that we had discussed in the beginning of
the project. It's kind of ironic that this site focuses around time, when
in reality time was our enemy. If the team had more time and fewer delays
this site would have reached its full potential, which was outlined in
the beginning.
With the completion of the site at hand, I am currently generating more
ideas to be used for the next 2 High-Tech. I choose to continue this project
mainly because of my deep interest in technology itself.
