Hyper ComputersWritten by: Jair Mendes Star Bridge Systems announced that they plan to introduce their hypercomputer (which is the fastest computer in the world) to the market for only a thousand dollars. They say is will replace desktop pc's. It is 60,000 times faster than a 350 MHz Pentium II processor, working at a speed of 12.84 trillion calculations per second. Another good thing about the hypercomputer is it's size; it's size is the same as a normal pc. The hypercomputer consumes only 1600 watts of power; it plugs into a 110v wall outlet. They can operate on battery power, solar energy or a generator. And it only weighs 150 pounds. Brent Ward, executive vice president of Star Bridge says, "It applies across the realm of information technology and electronics. Most devices with a chip in them will be using our technology to do things faster in a smaller space - from toasters to VCRs to automobiles." Imagine, if IBM's Blue Pacific supercomputer only performs about 3.9 trillion calculations per second and is used for nuclear-weapons simulations, how powerful will the hyper computer be? Star Bridge Systems believes that their hypercomputer is not as susceptible to breakdowns as other computers. Deliveries of the first hyper computers are scheduled for 2001.
