What is it?

A stye is an inflamed eyelash follicle. It causes swelling of the eyelid and is painful to the slightest pressure. The onset of the inflammation is characterized by a soft eyelid that swells up to a lump.

What causes it?

Any type of bacteria that makes it way to the hair follicles of your eyelashes can cause a stye. They are normally deep in the skin, so no amount of squeezing it will cause the pus to rupture out. Squeezing would make it dangerous, as it will cause agonizing pain and spread the puss.

Symptoms

  1. swollen eyelids
2. pressured pain around the eyes
3. red eyes
4. tender, puffy eyelids

Treatment

Treatment would include the application of heat packs to the inflamed area or antibiotics. In rare cases under medical experts, if that does not help, piercing the skin and drawing out the liquids is a possibility.
