What is it?

Pink Eye, as conjunctivitis is often called, is the itching, swelling and watering of the eyes resulting in a pink colored eye. This viral infection affects the conjunctiva and turns it pink. Pink eye is highly contagious to others and often spreads through schools. It is also possible to get pink eye in your other eye so you should take precautions and always wash your hands to avoid the spread.

What causes it?

Allergies, virii, and other chemicals have been known to cause pink eye. All it takes is one person to contract this and within days, he/she can spread it to others easily. Sharing make-up is one of the top causes of the spread of this condition.

Symptoms

  1. watery, itchy eyes
  2. blurry vision
  3. eye is very responsive to light

Treatment

Pink eye can last weeks and weeks and because of its contagiousness, can limit what you can do. In other words, try and avoid getting this by all means. You can keep away from the suffering by keeping your hands clean and not rubbing your eyes. If you are affected, resting and drinking are common remedies. Antibiotics really don't help much, if at all, with pink eye.
