What is it?

Also known as ptosis, droopy eyelids are caused by a weak levator muscle. The levator muscle, (think of elevator) is responsible for the raising of the eyelid. Ptosis can result in lazy eye and a loss of peripheral vision. It is inherited and still many people do not even realize they have it.

What causes it?

Even though it is an inherited disorder, it does not occur until later in life. The muscle gradually loses its strength and they eyelid begins to "droop".

Symptoms

  1. loss of peripheral vision
2. running into things

Treatment

An eyelift is a type of surgery that can dramatically improve droopy eyelids. For those who are into their looks, there is also a cosmetic benefit to the surgery as well. The surgery is fairly simple, quick and trouble-free. At most, small bruising may occur, but, all in all, the surgery can be a huge benefit for anyone affected.
