What
is it?
This condition
occurs when the middle of the macula
(your center of vision) becomes filled with fluid and then
swells into a lump-like shape. The macula, whose primary function
is for detailed vision such as driving and reading, becomes
swollen and causes blurred central vision.
What
causes it?
This can
be brought upon by past surgery or it can simply come out of the blue.
If through surgery, cystoid macular edema, or CME, can result after
a long period of time following surgery. Inflammation of the eye can
also cause this swelling.

|
blurry
vision (loss of central sight) |
|
| 2. |
watery,
sensitive eyes |
Treatment
Although
there is no proven cure, there are multiple treatment options available.
Medicines, the same used to halt arthritis, are used to stop
swelling. If this medication does not result in improved vision, a
special laser surgery can be performed which entails extracting
the liquid from the inflamed eye.
