Getting the File Ready:
Before you upload a file to our site, it is important that you read through the following instructions carefully!

  1. Files should be saved as text (.txt) files, Microsoft Word (.doc) files, HTML (.html) files, or Acrobat Reader (.pdf) files.
  2. When saving your file on a Macintosh, you have to manually type in the file extension after the name. (ex. lesson_plan.doc) Be sure to separate the file extension from the name using a period.
  3. Remove any spaces found in the file name. Spaces in the name cause problems when the browser tries to find the file specified.
  4. Please append your initials to the name of your file to lessen the likelihood of duplicate file names. (ex lesson_planTF.doc)
  5. Keep the file name relatively short. The fewer the characters the better. (ex. Change lesson_planTF.doc to lpTF.doc)
  6. Where possible always use lower case letters, this will make recalling file names easier. Unix file servers are case-sensitive which means if you link to a file named (lesson_planTF.doc) using the following link, Lesson_PlanTF.doc...the file will not be found.

Uploading the File:
The following steps are required to successfully upload a file and have it linked to in our search page. Read all instructions first!!

  1. Go to the Upload Page.

  2. Select the file(s) you wish to upload using the Browse button. You can select up to four files to upload at once. File size is restricted to 150 kilobytes per file.

  3. After you have uploaded the file(s), go to the Add a Resource page.

  4. You will now manually enter in the link information, so that others can find your uploaded file(s)-one at a time.

  5. First, type in a descriptive title for your uploaded file. (ex. Your activity deals with students constructing a mini-dig site. You could use something like "Construction of Mini-Dig Site") The more descriptive your title--the easier it will be for people to find your file when doing a search.

  6. The next blank has to do with the URL of your file. It is very important that you type in exactly what follows:
    /C005824/uploads/your_filename_here.extension
Replace your_filename_here.extension with the name of the file you just uploaded complete with its correct file extension.

  7. Select the appropriate category for your uploaded file. If the file you uploaded was an Activity geared for 3rd graders, you would select the category Education/Activities/K-3.

  8. In the next field, type in a short description of your lesson plan or activity, so that others will be able to quickly find it when searching.

  9. Finally in the last two fields, type in your name and email address, so that we may contact you in the event that your link or file should be changed.

After you complete the following steps, we will receive your request to add the file to our database. Within a few days your file and its link will join the growing list of activities and lesson plans. Thank you!
