Before you dive right into Dinosaur
Treks, we want to make sure that you fully enjoy our site.
Your computer should be at least a Power Macintosh or PC compatible (Pentium
166 or higher). For best viewing, you should be using either Netscape Navigator
4.0 or above, or Internet Explorer 4.5 or above. The browser should also have
the latest Shockwave player (version 8.0) and media player for handling the
audio files in Trek 1(ex. Quicktime 4.0 for Macintosh--Media Player for PC).
You may also want to set your monitor to a resolution of 800x600. Although
the above is not necessary for all parts of the site, it will make for a richer
experience. A couple of beginning tips are also listed below.

Make sure that the students know to click on different areas of the museum lobby pictures. For instance the pictures, elevator, books, and tracks pit all lead to different areas. Take time to explore before launching right into the first trek. Also, pay close attention to the front desk. Students will need to click on the file folder that is sitting on the left side of the desk (on top of a pile of magazines). This will supply them with the much needed Trek 1 password!
Before jumping into Trek 1 you may want to take a day to talk about dinosaurs and figure out what the students already do and/or do not know. See Lesson Plans for ideas. There are multiple paths through Trek 1. Not everyone will probably complete it the same. However, this is not a problem. The students, regardless of the path they take, will still cover all the time periods, dinosaur groups, and the same number of places. This can make for interesting dialogue after everyone has completed the trek. They should also record in their notebooks this various information (dinosaurs, location, time period, etc). They will need to use this information as a reference in Trek 3.
If students are unable to finish all of Trek 1, don't forget to have them note their location before they leave for the day. To continue in the country they left off at, have the students click on the "Help" (the question mark) button in the smaller slide-menu. Then, go to Directory of Countries. Have them select the country they were in last. Remember, they will have to start at the beginning of that country, but this is better than having to start completely over. Also, remember to have the students write down the password they receive for Trek 2. They won't be able to continue without this.
Trek 2 is pretty self-explanatory. Be certain that students take time in the store scenes to make sure they get their supplies. There are multiple places to click on in the store scene. Trek 2 will be broken up by locations: Store, Field, and Museum. Students will be able to pick up at the beginning of anyone of these locations. Don't forget to note Trek 3's password.
Trek 3 is the mission to "Catch the Dinosaur Treks Thief!" The trek has a "Carmen SanDiego" like theme to it. Students will analyze several clues in order to track down and catch our thief, Mezi ZoiK.
