All about Ungureni

Analysing the position of the performers in the first charms presented we can see that some charms are often made only headed to West or other points of the compass. Thus at the end of the charm of driving away the rain the performer thrusts an axe into the ground directed to East ,a second one to the West and a third to the direction from where the rain comes.
     The places where the charms can unfold may be: a) permitted places;b)forbidden places; c)sacred places;

The permitted places are usually the rooms of the house where the sick one spoilt by the evil eye lies; then the stable where the animals need to be cured, the graveyards and woods for doings, the running waters, especially the places near the mill where the doings must be 'the hatreds' and others must be 'washed'.
For example the permitted place and altogether necessary place for an evil-eye charm is the fire place. The performer needs embers, a cup, virgin water, that she must bring then, the threshold, the holes of the benches as we can see in a good -for-everything charm.
You take virgin water in a half litter cup and you smooth in it three embers and count from nine to one making the sign of the cross with the knife when getting to 1 you say the charm; you start with a prayer the one you know best. After the pray you say:
"What 99 charm doers do,
I do it too. (three times)
What 99 charm doers say
I say it. (three times)
If he is spoilt by the evil eye of a wife,
Of a housband, of a youngster or of an old man,
By green eyes, brown eyes, blue eyes,
May their eyes burst out like the embers,
If it is of a girl,
May her plaits fall out,
If it is of a wife,
May breast cleave,
If it is of a husband,
May his balls cleave.
99 ghosts,
99 wraiths,
99 wraiths,
99 wraiths,
If you don't go away,
We will cut you with the sickle,
We'll rip you with the knife,
We'll cast you over the seas,
For you to perish and perish again,
Like the foam on the sea,
Like the spit on the lame,
Nine little girls,
With nine little brooms,
With nine little wiping clothes,
Went their way on the lame
Till the middle of the way,
Where are you nine little girls going?
With nine little brooms,
With nine little wiping clothes?
We are going to the Holy Father's Church,
No, you are not going there,
Because the Mighty God,
Woke up in the morning,
And cleaned this place well,
Swept it well,
But come to me,
Because here is the mist of an evil eye,
Mist of nine sorts,
Mist of nine kinds,
Don't cleave it,
Don't pick it,
Don't pierce it,
But you go through fire and water,
So that (name) stays clean,
And lightened,
Like the holy virgin Mother,
Like she is not now in the morning,
Let her not be spoilt in the evening,
If she is touched,
Or paralyzed,
By a wind coming from the woods,
By wind coming from the waters,
By wind coming from the fields,
Let it go to the Deserted Mountains,
So that she stays clean,
Just like the holy Virgin Mother."
The whole spell must be said three times. It is very hard to understand what the performer says. Everybody must keep silence. Nobody is allowed to move across the room. The only one who moves and speaks is the charm performer.
After the first charm the water is passed through three holes of the bench counting from 9 to 1 then 0. The sick person is washed with the reverse of the hand from the lower parts of the body to the upper ones saying:
" Just like you can't wash with the back of the hand,
                    Let no one harm (name),
                    If someone has done,
                    By witchcrafts may they turn
Over the one who did them
And over the one who brought them."
The charm performer blows over the place where she has stayed, spits and goes to another place. The remaining water is cast over the hinges of the door three times and the rest of it is thrown on the roof of the house and the cup is laid upside down on  the threshold. The knife is put near the cup.

The morning dew becomes a remedy especially for the case of the warts: "Charm against the warts with Friday morning dew from the window glass":
"Just the way the Friday dew gets dry
May the root of the warts,
     On my face,
     On my hands,
     On my hands,
     Get dry,
Just like I don't know  when you appeared,
May I not know when you disappear,
     May you dry,
     May you melt,
May you go away from me."
Also in the morning, another practice for remoting the warts can be performed: "You go beyond the boundaries and look for a bone (any kind of bone). When you find it, you touch the warts at once with the side on witch the bone has lied on the ground and say:
"Holy Mary,
 You Holy Mother,
 May these warts
Fall off me (or other name)
When this bone is eaten on an ant hill."
"You take the bone and carry it (still wet) to an ant hill and the bone will be eaten soon."
The morning is the auspicious time for looking for luck. "If you go up on the hill or in the woods and hear the cuckoo singing in the morning pay attention and see on what branch it is staying. You go and break the branch, for it brings luck at the fair."
