Omar is fond of physics and computer programming; he took responsibility for the content of the project, the java and cgi (perl) programming.
Hamza is a talented Web designer, HTML programmer, very efficient Photoshop and Flash user. He built most of the site and designed all the graphics. He is very hard working and perseverant.
We had three coaches to guide us: Ibrahim and Rabie supervised the programming. Ayman supervised the graphic designs.
The idea of the site came to Omar when he borrowed a magazine about particle physics from the school's library last year. We already had in mind to build a site on the weird world of quantum physics, a difficult and - to tell the truth - rather unattractive subject to most people. Quite a challenge! But we knew too -what most people ignore- that the "effects" of Quantum Mechanics surround us and cannot be ignored anymore. So we were determined to make things look easy and familiar, keeping mathematics and hard stuff far away. So we concentrated on the core of the subject, trying to make it very accessible by using lots of graphics, stories, illustrations. Quantum mechanics, one of the most feared subjects, has become like every day life to us. We hope it will be the same for you!
The hardest part of the whole project was the off-computer preparation and
the last weeks before uploading, as it seemed that last minute details would
never end. The most enjoyable part was the building of the site itself,
when things started to have a shape
the menu, few links, etc
We spent a good deal of our afternoons during the school year on it, and
most our days (and nights) during the summer holidays. The translation,
and especially the Arabic one cost us a lot of extra efforts as we had to
shift all the pages and graphics to the right to install the translated
texts. For the French translation, we tried to use a translating program
but as we found the outcome unreadable, we resorted to the old fashion way
-hard work.
The whole project, with its many facets, was an extremely enriching experience. It was not only about quantum mechanics and site building, it was much much more. Looking back, we did not expect that completing this project would take that much work, effort, patience and time. We hope it was worth it.
