Recycling in not a new concept, it is simply the reusing of waste to either same money and the environment.
Not everything can be recycled, things such as polystyrene dishes, etc. can sometimes be recycled. Plastic bottles can also be recycled, but only certain bottles as many become brittle.
Glass is another recyclable object, it can used either exactly the way it is or smashed into pieces to create new bottles. The glass objects that are usually kept whole are wine bottles as they can be returned as reused once cleaned thoroughly.
Paper is recycled the most. Newspapers are often printed on recycled paper. Paper is wasted in this modern era. Many cannot comprehend that paper is precious and that trees are cut down in there millions every year for the production of paper.
Some recent figures include that about 4 million tons of paper are thrown away anually by American offices. This amount of paper could build a wall 3,5 metres high from New york to California.
Luckily, Americans also recycle a lot of paper. Anually, 18 million tons of paper is recycled, saving about 1,1 million trees from being cut down.
All these figures were taken from Time Magazine Special Edition, April/May 2000.
