Were the use of the atomic bombs necessary on Japan in WW2?
| Ever since the war started in Singapore, it
was a horror and unforgettable 4 years of our grandparents.
The Japanese killed millions of people. Not only Singapore, there
were also other Southeast Asian countries. For hat I've
researched, Japan really needed a severe punishment at that
time. Their punishment was the atomic bombing of Nagasaki
& Hiroshima.
During that four years, adults, children and old folks at that time mostly died of starvation and diseases. There were also those who lived in rubber plantations or far away, clothes were not easy to find and food they got to eat was only tapioca, sweet potato, maize or millet. Rice was all taken away by the Japanese soldiers and if anyone caught hiding rice, he will be punish severely. The young and able-bodied men, as young as thirteen years of age wee sent to Burma to build a railroad to India. At that time, the British ruled India. The Japanese were over-ambitious that they could not even judged strength properly, though they were getting weaker. The horrible end was July 1945 when Allied bombs had destroyed half of Tokyo and many other towns and cities. An invasion of Japan was imminent, but a separate development halted those plans. Later the atomic bomb was created by a group of scientist. It was a top-secret project called the Manhattan Project. The bomb was tested at Alamogordo, New Mexico on July 16. President Truman made the decision that to drop this powerful bomb would make Japan realize that they could not win. Although it was recognized that the economy of Japan was close to collapse, it was known that more those 2, 000, 0 well-trained, well-equipped, determined Japanese soldiers wee already on the main islands of Japan, with an equal number in north China and Manchuria. Japanese forces too had fought with suicidal determination in all the battles of the war; they had held out in hopeless positions long after the soldiers of the militaristic leaders of Japan might keep their country in the war so long as they and their soldiers remained alive, even though this might mean the starvation of many and death of many or most of the countrymen. On August 6, a single American bomber, a B-29 Super fortress dubbed the Enola Gay, dropped the first nuclear device ever used against humans on Hiroshima, Japan. Within 75 seconds, the city vaporized. The effect killed 75, 000 people and later the second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, three days later. Since then Japanese military asked for peace.
