We have created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate our commitment to our
visitors' and community members' privacy. The following discloses what information
we may collect and why we collect it. It also describes how we handle our security.
During your visit at our site, the site automatically collects a small amount of
non-personal identifiable information, such as your Web Browser, Operating System
and most viewed popular pages. The information is collected in order to diagnose the
usage of our Web Site and improve our site to fit most visitors. The information which
we gather is for internal use only.
We will not collect personal identifiable information about any visitor unless the visitor
is made aware that we collect such information. An example of personal idenfitiable
information we do collect, is when a user adds an entry to the guestbook or registers
as a community member.
The personal information which we collect when users register as community member, is for
administering and communication purpose between other members and the member and us. We will
not share any personal information that we collect about you without your permisssion.
When registering as a community member on our site, you are required to provide certain
personal identifiable information such as name and email address. We do also collect other
information but it is optionally if you want to provide it.
To respect your privacy we have 3 levels of privacy, anonymous, public without email and
public.
By choosing this option, other visitors may view your profile, i.e that they can see your
name, and other information which you have chosen to share. They may also send you an email
by using our "Email Member" form, but are not able to view your email address.
This option is the same as the "Pulic" privacy option, except that other visitors may not
send you emails.
This options makes you totally anonymous on the site. This means that if you choose to
make contribute to our site, these will be listed as they are contributed by anonymous.
We take the security for all personal and non-personal information associated with our visitors
and community members very seriously. However, due to the open communication nature of the Internet,
we can not guarantee that communications between you and us, and us and you, will be free from
unauthorised access by third parties. Neither do we administer the servers, which our site is hosted
on. ThinkQuest (http://www.thinkquest.org) administers these.
For the convenience of our visitors we may store bits of information inside your computer.
These bits of information are known as "cookies". We may use these "cookies" to save your
password (encrypted) and username so you don't have to re-enter it each time you visit
our site.
The password of each community member is stored securely in the site's database. The
password is encrypted with the Message Digest 5 (MD5) algorithm (developed by RSA Data
Security Inc.), before it is stored in the database. The algorithm is irreversible which
means that if a hacker or just a system administrator get access to the member database,
they won't be able to decrypt your password.
At login time the encrypted password is matched with the one provided by the member.
If the member's browser has JavaScript enabled, the password will be encrypted with the
MD5 algorithm before it is sent over the network, and again a hacker would not be able
to decrypt the password.
If a member forgets or looses her/his password, the site may send a new password on
request, provided that the member enters an email address. The new password is generated
randomly by the site, and sent to the email address which the member has provided earlier.
Our Site may contain links to other sites. Other sites may also reference or link to
our Site. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such other
sites.
By visiting this Web Site, you signify your assent to our then current
Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use our Web Site.
We reserve the right, at our discretion, to change, modify, add, or remove
portions from this policy at any time. Your continued use of our Web Site following the
posting of changes to these terms means you accept these changes.
If you have any questions about the practices of this site, or your dealings with this
Web Site, you can contact ThinkQuest Team C005706 by sending an email to C005706@advanced.org.
