Both in education and psychology, testing is an attempt to measure a person's knowledge, intelligence, or learning. There are many types of tests; those which are used to select students for special instruction or college admission, to select employees, to determine verbal ability, and to determine interests, personality, or vocational ability.
Academic achievement tests are often standardized, nonstandardized, norm-referenced, or criterion-referenced. Psychological tests are subject to several requirements and assessment procedures, and usually test ability or intelligence.
