Time Traveler
The postal history of Tanzania was dominated by three colonial masters, Britain, Germany and France. However, the British proved to be the dominant ones and insisted on the closure of German and French post offices set up in Zanzibar, a Tanzanian island.

The British then consolidated its dominance by setting up a Protectorate in Tanzania and all of its stamps were issued in "annas", the currency of the British India then.

After the British, Tanzania eased off into independence and stamps carrying the various Sultans' faces were issued in place of the old British postage.

Technology
Being a Third World country, it is understandable that technology in Tanzania's postal system is a step behind most postal systems of developed countries. Tanzania's Postal and Telephone Communications Administration has set up 275 post offices since 1967 but the standard of communications went down during the 1970s all the way to the 90s.

To support the system, Japanese firm Mitsubishi started a re-hauling of the telephone system; the postal service was liberated from the telephone company to allow better management.
