Antonio Gaudí i Cornet was a Spanish architect whose work highlighted the capital of Barcelona. His style, called modernismo, resembles the art nouveau style. As the New Free Style architect of Spain, Gaudi expressed his style freely in the Park Guell and Casa Mila and Casa Battlo, all of which were completed by 1914.
Another innovative aspect of Gaudi work were is colored facades. He used substances such as tiles and bricks to improve the look of his work by adding special effects to them. He also even used rubble in his work.
The resourcefulness of Gaudi is no the only thing innovative, but his innovative mind contributed to the new technology he introduced into the world of architecture. One example is the hyperbolic paraboloid, which is the technology behind his irregularly shaped buildings.
The best example of Gaudi's architecture is the Expiatory Church of the Holy Family. Even though it was begun in 1882, work continues on the structure.
Finally, after observing the architecture of Gaudi, many believe his work can be compared to abstract and expressionist architecture. This is true due to his Art Nouveau (or Modernismo) philosophies.
