A primary goal of perception is to get an accurate "fix" on the world. Ambiguity is an important concept in understading perception because it shows that a single image at the sensory level can result in multiple interpretations at the perceptual and identification levels. Each of the following images allows two interpretation, but you cannot experience both at the same time. When your perceptual systems actually decieve you into experiencing a stimulus pattern in a manner that is demonstrably incorrect, you are experiencing an Illusion.
