Although dream time seems to be very long ( some may seems
to last for a whole day), they are actually very short intervals of time, around
several minutes. Why do they seems to be so long? For some reasons, it maybe
we who invent and insert some incident into the dream to make it seems so long.
Let us do an experiment to see the relationship between Dream Time and
Real Time.
Experiment
You may need to ask a partner to help you in this experiment.
- Go to your bedroom, ask your partner to bring a pin with
him.
- You try to sleep in your bedroom. About an hour after you
sleep, you should be dreaming. Your partner will use a pin to hit you moderately,
let you have the feeling. In your dream, you should feel some external stimulus,
like someone kick you, you feel pain in your body, notice it and remember it.
- After a few minutes later, your partner use the pin to hit
you painly, which make you awake.
- Tell your partner what you are just doing before you awake.
Tell him how long you feel in the dream starting from the first stimulus to
the second stimulus. e.g. half day.
- Ask your partner the time intervals between the first pin
and the second pin.
- Compare the Dream time and the Real time to find out the
relationship between them.
You will probably suprise that as you think your dream is very
long, it occurs for just a few minutes!
