Every once in awhile an astronomical event happens that captures the attention of the world. These events are comets, meteor showers, and lunar and solar eclipses. These events don't happen every day, and sometimes they don't happen for years or even decades. Meteor showers are the most common, happening year round, mostly between August and December. Eclipses are the next most common. There can be between two and seven eclipses per year, but only parts of the world can see a solar eclipse. Finally, there's comets, which happen periodically. Halley's comet, for example, comes and goes every 76 years. All of these events, however, are special because they don't happen every day, unlike the sun rising in the east and setting in the west 365 times a year. You can click on one of the special events below to learn more about it.
