Earth
Mythology
Unlike the other planets, the Earth’s name is not Roman at all. It is from the Old English “Oerthe”.

Facts
Since you should already know a bit about the Earth, we are going to use this space to talk about a strange unit of measurement, the astronomical unit (AU). Since the solar system is too large to be measured by kilometers with ease, and too small to be measured in light years, astronomers had to agree on a unit that is perfect for measuring the solar system. This unit is the astronomical unit. This unit is equal to the distance from the Earth to the Sun, making it pretty easy to remember. The outer planets are over 10 to 20 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun, which makes the astronomical unit just about right as a measurement.
