South-African Minerals

The history of the South-African diamond idustry
During the sixties in the 19th century South African states experienced an economical depression. Then in the late sixties and early seventies diamonds were discovered near where the Orange- and Vaalriver converge. This was in or near the region where the Cape-colony, Orange Freestate ZAR and some Griqua regions came together. Later the diamond digging moved to the region now known as Kimberly. It was here that one of today's most renowm diamond companies was registered namely De Beers Consolidated Mines LTD.
