The TOEFL test is divided into three sections all of which are multiple-choice questions with four possible answers per question. Section 1 tests your listening comprehension, section 2 tests structure and written expression knowledge, and section 3 tests your reading comprehension. 

Each section of the test is timed and the total test will take less than 3hrs to complete. The test proctor will announce when to stop and start each section.

Preparation

Consistent study of English is the best preparation for the TOEFL test. You can't cram a foreign language into your head the night before the test. English proficiency requires studying the language for a long period of time and consistent practice.

The best suggestion we can give before taking the TOEFL is to review what you have already learned. Another thing that will ultimately help your score is to become familiar with the test before you take it. Knowing what to expect when you take the test will help you do better.

Tips

• Answer all the questions that you can. If you're not sure about an answer make the best guess and move on.
• Keep up a careful but steady pace while you test. Don't spend a long time on any one question but don't skip any that just "look" hard either.
• Mark your answer sheet correctly. That means filling in the oval completely not checking it, putting an x through it, or filling it in part way. Fill in the oval completely.
• Use a good pencil, mechanical pencils are great because you don't have to re-sharpen them or bring extras.
• Be sure to mark your answer in the row with the same number as the question you are answering. Getting out of synchronization between your test and answer sheet can through all of your answers off.
• If you change your mind about an answer after you have marked it on your answer sheet, completely erase your old answer before filling in your new answer.
• Get a good book on the TOEFL and read it. Most TOEFL preparation books will give you tips similar to the ones we gave but they will also give you example questions to work and tips for each of the 3 sections.
